Biography

Gillian Kitley

Gillian Kitley is the Senior Officer in the United Nations Office on Genocide Prevention and the Responsibility to Protect, which, among other tasks, is mandated to alert the Secretary-General to the risk of genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity in any situation. Gill joined the Office in October 2009 after 15 years as a UN human rights officer in Haiti, Eritrea and Ethiopia, Burundi, Nepal and Gaza. Her work has included supervision of human rights monitoring, reporting and protection activities of peace keeping operations as well as investigations into serious and massive violations of international human rights and humanitarian law. Prior to joining the UN, Gill worked for Amnesty International at the International Secretariat in London.
