Biography

Catherine Kathungu

Catherine Kathungu, a lawyer from Butembo, in North Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo, provides legal assistance to the Association des Femmes Juristes pour les Droits de la Femme, which advocates on behalf of female and child victims of human rights abuses in North Kivu province. Previously, she served as vice president of the board of directors and head of advocacy for the Synergy for Female Victims of Sexual Violence; as national commissioner for human rights during the DRC’s transition to democracy; and as court officer at the High Court in Butembo. She received a degree in public and international law from the School of Law at the Université Libre des Pays de Grands Lacs in North Kivu.
