Nataša Kandić
Nataša Kandić is a human-rights advocate based in Belgrade, Serbia, who has worked tenaciously to uncover the truth about Serbian war crimes. During the war in Bosnia, she crossed the front lines to document what Serbian forces were doing to non-Serb civilians in towns they occupied. In 1999, as NATO bombs fell on Serbia, she shuttled back and forth into Kosovo to bear witness to the atrocities being committed there. Her efforts have alienated many in Serbia, even among the pro-democracy forces, who remain reluctant to acknowledge the crimes Serbian forces committed in the wars of the former Yugoslavia.
