Biography

Richard Hovannisian

Richard Hovannisian is professor of history and associate director of the Center for Near Eastern Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles. A member of the UCLA faculty since 1962, he holds the Armenian Educational Foundation Chair in Modern Armenian History. Hovannisian is the author of several texts on the first independent Armenian state, including the two-volume The Armenian People from Ancient to Modern Times, which documents the history of Armenia from antiquity through the 20th century, and the four-volume The Republic of Armenia. Hovannisian is also a member of the Facing History and Ourselves National Board of Scholars.
