Triangles of Truth
Boca Raton, Florida
Growing up in Israel in a time of violence and chaos, the lessons of the Holocaust held deep meaning for Corinne Gilad. They also instilled in her a desire to help present day victims of genocide. When she moved to Florida and began high school, Corinne sought a way to bridge these lessons from the past with an action plan to aid those currently in need. She found her answer in a club started by her Holocaust Studies teacher, Sharona Kay, called Triangles of Truth.
Triangles of Truth is an organization that raises funds and awareness about the crisis in Darfur, while at the same time honoring victims of the Holocaust. For each dollar donated, a triangle is purchased that pledges to help the people of Darfur in honor and memory of a specifically named Holocaust victim. The full donation is then forwarded to the Save Darfur Coalition and the Genocide Intervention Network.
So far the club has been very successful, raising over $20,000 and recruiting twelve other schools to join in their efforts. They hope to continue to grow the organization and its influence, eventually beyond the borders of Florida. For Corinne, working with the organization has shown her a bright and encouraging side of humanity. “We are continuously producing triangles, and emailing and calling businesses, organizations, and schools to spread awareness. The donations we receive contain the hope and compassion of those who helped us.”
