Satsita Muradova was born in Grozny, Chechen–Ingush Autonomous Republic. In 1998 she graduated from the Chechen State University with a law degree. From 1997 until 1999 Ms. Muradova worked at the Chechen Foreign Ministry, documenting human rights violations in the first Chechen War (1994-1996). When the second war started in 1999, the Foreign Ministry disbanded and she fled Grozny due to intense air and artillery strikes. In 2000, she began working for a human rights organization, Memorial, in Ingushetia. At Memorial she helped to provide legal services for Chechen refugees and monitored human rights violations in Chechnya. Ms. Muradova entered the US in 2002 and was granted asylum.
