Dr. James Anderson is the Defense and National Security Analyst at the Heritage Foundation. Previously, he worked as an Associate Professor of International Relations at the Command and Staff College, Marine Corps University. Dr. Anderson earned his B.A. from Amherst College and his M.A.L.D. and Ph.D. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. He wrote his doctoral dissertation on national decision-making and military intervention. Before attending graduate school, he spent three years on active duty in the Marine Corps as an intelligence officer. In October 1996, he was promoted to the rank of major in the reserves.
