George Rupp is president and CEO of the International Rescue Committee. Before coming to IRC in July 2002, Dr. Rupp was president of Columbia University, where he focused on enhancing undergraduate education, on strengthening the relationship of the campus to surrounding communities and New York City as a whole, and on increasing the university’s international orientation. He also has served as president of Rice University and dean of the Harvard Divinity School. He is the author of numerous articles and four books, including Beyond Existentialism and Zen: Religion in a Pluralistic World and Commitment and Community. He has degrees from Princeton University, Yale Divinity School and Harvard.
