Alan Eastham is director of the State Department’s Office of Central African Affairs. His long involvement in U.S. relations with Africa includes service in the US Embassies in Nairobi and Kinshasa. He also has served in the US embassies in India and Pakistan and as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary and Acting Assistant Secretary for South Asian Affairs. From September 2001 to August 2002, he was Special Negotiator for Conflict Diamonds. Mr. Eastham holds degrees from Hendrix College and from Georgetown University Law Center.
