DETAILS
SIMON JERUCHIM "HIDDEN IN FRANCE: A BOY'S JOURNEY UNDER THE NAZI OCCUPATION", "FRENCHY: A YOUNG JEWISH-FRENCH IMMIGRANT DISCOVERS LOVE AND ART IN AMERICA - AND WAR IN KOREA"
In "Hidden in France" Simon Jeruchim recalls his life in hiding, at age twelve, when the Nazis began rounding up French Jews throughout France. His younger brother, older sister and Simon assumed gentile identities to avoid being caught up in the Nazis net. They went to mass every Sunday, worked on a farm and lived with the fear of the being found out at any moment. After the war Simon and his siblings were placed in a series of homes for Jewish children. In 1949 they began their new lives in America.

In "Frenchy" Simon describes the difficulty of having to adjust so quickly to his new home in America. He will soon begin to fit in and look for not only a job but also love. Ultimately "Frenchy" is a book about the triumph of the spirit, and of optimism against all odds.
