ESTONIA Okupatsioonide Repressiivpoliitika Uurimise Riiklik Komisjon [Estonian State Commission on the Examination of the Policies of Repression] The Estonian parliament established the commission in 1991 to research acts of violence committed by occupying powers on the territory of the Estonian Republic and against Estonian citizens, as well as to assess the economic damage caused to the people of Estonia. The commission will publish a report of its findings by 2004. Professor Emeritus Vello Salo currently chairs the commission. The commission, chaired by Max Jacobson, is an independent, nongovernmental organization whose purpose is to investigate what crimes against Estonian citizens occurred in Estonia during the Holocaust. The preliminary report, Phase II: The German Occupation of Estonia, 1941–1944, can be found on the commission’s Web site. The full report will be published by the end of 2002.
